Heliocentric
Heliocentric was a jazz, funk and boogie club night based in Manchester run through a collaboration between founders and resident DJs; Nirav and Stephan; and designers; myself, Shannon and Crystal. From jazz legend Kaidi Tatham, to eclectic selector Tina Edwards - we hosted a wide range of talent.
The artwork for the promotion of the events as well as the design of the event space was heavily influenced by the aesthetics of Afro-Futurism, a cultural aesthetic that combines science-fiction, history and fantasy to explore the African-American experience. This came from a focus on Sun Ra, an essential artist in the history of Afro-Futurism who became well known for his intense, freeform jazz performances which featured whole set designs and costumes all drawing from sci-fi themes.
